Howard “Trey” Martin is a distinguished dermatopathologist renowned for his unwavering commitment to advancing the field through expertise and leadership. His journey encompasses exceptional education and a prolific career, deeply rooted in diagnostic patient care, research, and education.
After completing his dermatopathology fellowship under the mentorship of A. Bernard Ackerman at the Ackerman Academy, affiliated with the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York City, Dr. Martin assumed the role of Medical Director. This pivotal position was held for several years, solidifying his expertise. Following his tenure, he transitioned to the role of Laboratory Director at a prominent national multi-specialty laboratory, dedicating his daily endeavors to the field of dermatopathology. In 2015, he embraced a new chapter as a Partner and Laboratory Director at Sagis, PLLC, fostering growth and innovation within the organization.
As our current Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Martin possesses licenses in twenty-four states, a testament to his widespread expertise and recognition. He maintains active affiliations with several esteemed medical societies, including the American Society of Dermatopathology, the American Academy of Dermatology, the College of American Pathologists, and the American Medical Association, underlining his commitment to professional growth and collaboration.

Dr. Martin has performed research in varied topics such as spindle cell neoplasms of the skin, mouse models in the study of erythropoietin, and rapid colorimetric testing in toxicology. He is currently working on utilizing genetic mutations for the diagnosis of melanoma. Dr. Martin was a contributing author for the third edition of the widely used Histologic Diagnosis of Inflammatory Skin Diseases, An Algorithmic Method Based on Pattern Analysis with A. Bernard Ackerman as the main author. He has lectured at both national and local professional society meetings, including the American Academy of Dermatology.
